The two brothers who confessed to suffocating their father with a pillow in their own home in Kymi, Evia, with the complicity of the victim’s daughter’s husband, are expected to apologize on Friday.
Their lawyer Athanasios Tartis said that the criminal charge against them was for murder by joint homicide in a calm state of mind and the investigator gave them a deadline to apologize.
The 66-year-old’s son is sticking to the claim he had made all along, saying his father had repeatedly victimized him.
The 66-year-old’s son and daughter are accused of the crime, as is the victim’s brother-in-law, who even tried to stage the crime scene to make it appear that the son was in self-defense.
The victim’s 22-year-old son claimed to police that his father had sexually abused him more than once.
“He came out of the bathroom naked with a knife and tried to rape me,” she told police, adding: “He was screaming at me that he wanted to do it for the last time.”
However, a different picture was painted by the 22-year-old’s sister, who indirectly denied his claims. As she told police, her brother had never told her that their father had abused him.
How the murder was committed
The assailants allegedly attacked the 66-year-old man while he was sleeping. Wearing gloves, they placed a pillow over his face causing him to die a suffocating death.
Then, in an attempt to mislead authorities, they removed the victim’s clothes, put a knife in his hand, and carried it down the basement stairs of the house, where police officers found it.
Before the crime, moreover, the son had called the authorities and said that his father had attacked and tried to rape him. The alleged perpetrators’ claims did not convince anyone and, after a thorough investigation by the police, their involvement emerged. The 22-year-old’s phone call was even assessed by the authorities as suspicious which turned the attention to him.
“From the beginning, the location where the 66-year-old’s body was found didn’t add up. It had been moved to where it was found, which rang bells. Also, the allegations that the son was attacked by his father were not convincing. We are talking about a tall stout man while the victim was small in stature,” sources with knowledge of the case noted.
After the crime, the perpetrators burned the evidence of the crime (pillow, cloth, and clothing) outside the house, part of which was recovered and seized.
Police officers also found two household knives and a magazine with homosexual content, which the perpetrators had placed between two mattresses on which the victim was sleeping, as well as the sum of 12,000 euros.
