SYRIZA: 2025 planning at the Executive Bureau

First concern is the organisational reconstruction - The proposal for a new President and the return to everyday life

Newsroom December 30 10:56

With symbolic moves due to the holidays, but also with an eye on the political issues of 2025, the Executive Bureau of the SYRIZA Progressive Alliance, in order to assess the current political situation and to set the first organizational goals of the party for the new year.

It is recalled that the new Executive Bureau, which also functions as a “morning coffee”, includes:

– Famelos Socrates

– Svigou Rania

– Giorgos Vassiliadis

– Olga Gerovassili

– Duru Rena

– Kostas Zachariadis

– Theocharopoulos Thanasis

– Kalamatianos Dionysis

– Karameros George

– Xenogiannakopoulou Mariliza

– Pappas Nikos

– Pavlos Polakis

– Ragousis Yannis

Due to the festive break, but also the return of many executives to their constituencies, the opportunity to participate via videoconference is offered, as the aim of Koumoundourou, among other things, was the daily interaction of its top executives with the electoral base of the party throughout Greece, in order to incorporate messages and demands in its upcoming action.

Organizational Reconstruction

Besides, the first concern for SYRIZA PC in 2025 is its organizational reconstruction, to which both the new leadership and most of the top executives are expected to devote themselves to a large extent in the first months of the new year, with the party’s Congress, which is in principle scheduled for next spring, in sight. Already, keeping a low profile and actively inviting the return of SYRIZA President PS, Socrates Famellos to distanced executives, the regrouping of the party’s prefectural and local organizations continued over the holiday season, and not coincidentally, Mr. Famellos was present before the festive break both at a party event in Patras and at a joint meeting of the prefectural organizations of SYRIZA PS in Thessaloniki.

At the same time, the organizational reorganization is expected to strengthen the party’s rallying levels, in order to be reflected in the next polls, since at the end of January many of Koumoundourou’s top executives believe that there will be a representative, if not secure, picture regarding the party’s dynamics and the direction of its opposition discourse in 2025.

The proposal for a President

Moreover, even if publicly Koumoundourou avoids any hint around the nomenclature for the Presidency of the Republic, the issue of the proposal of a person with unquestionable political prestige, but also strong social resonance, is a matter of intense concern for SYRIZA PS, an issue that is not excluded to come up again in today’s meeting of the Executive Bureau. However, asked to list the top personalities of 2025 in VIMA, Socrates Famellos chose as the most influential the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres on a global scale, and Maria Karystianou, Martha’s mother and president of the Tempi Accident Victims Association as the top person for the country, “because she had the strength to stand up and speak loudly, asking for justice for the crime of Tempi, a message that reached the entire Greek society and European institutions”, he said.

Shift to everyday life

At the same time, SYRIZA PS President’s visit to earthquake victims in Damasi Larissa at the weekend sent a first message of a shift in the daily life of citizens in 2025 after a year and a half of introspection in Koumoundourou, with Famellos accusing the government of “devaluation”. “We are here, together with the Thessaly MPs of SYRIZA-PS and the Prefectural Committees, to join our voices with the octogenarian Manolis, who has been living for four years in a 14-square-metre container. With 37-year-old Thanasis, who has mobility problems and who has also been living in a container for four years. But also with the sixty families here in Damasi, as well as in neighbouring Zarko, as well as in Arkalochori, Crete, who are receiving inefficiency and disdain from the government,” he said. His move, moreover, to visit Damasi caused an “explosion” of views on social networks, exceeding even the numbers of his election campaign, which was perceived as a message of intensification of his social presence in the future, by Koumoundourou.

Already, the President of SYRIZA PS will visit today at 11 am the “home”, i.e. the offices of the magazine “Σχεδία”, sending another social message during the holidays, after his visits to social structures and charitable institutions during the weekend in Thessaloniki.

“Of course I would like Tsipras to return”

Given these facts and in view of the arrival of the New Year, “I am optimistic. Something is leaving, something is coming. I think that SYRIZA and with the election of Socrates Famellos, who is a serious politician both in knowledge and in values, open, a good debater, a good listener, an observer of the big picture, that is, of society, has set a tone of returning to seriousness and politics. We have work to do to prove that this is not instantaneous – and we will do it,” said, speaking to VIMA, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Olga Gerovassili, who made no secret of the fact that cooperation from the New Left is one of the first, potential targets of SYRIZA PS. “Obviously, it is our closest place. I don’t believe in party adhesions. Partnerships are more than that. I think it will be easier to have a dialogue,” the Deputy Speaker assessed, who replied that “I would like to see a convergence of progressive forces now, including PASOK.” Asked about former Prime Minister and party President Alexis Tsipras and the possibility of his return, “of course I would like him to return”, Mrs. Gerovassili replied, concluding that “I did not want him to leave. But in politics, things are not determined by the politician, they are determined by the political events and events.”
