The commercial streets of downtown Athens, especially Ermou, are in chaos as consumers make their last purchases for 2024.

Some loaded bags with gifts, others with their own “goodies” and some even with food from the Euripidou market and Varvakeio are moving through the center just before the stores close.

At the same time, drivers moving in the center will have to be armed with a lot of patience as there is a traffic jam on several streets due to the increased traffic in the shops.

What time stores in Athens close

Last day of business for 2024 today for supermarkets and supermarkets as they will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 1.

Shops will also be closed on Thursday 2 January while some supermarket chains will be open.

Tuesday 31 January

Shops 9:00-18:00
The department stores 10:00-20:00

Supermarkets 8:00-21:00 (some such as Sklavenitis and AB Vassilopoulos close at 20:00)
