Nikos Dendias: “We will continue with determination to modernise the Armed Forces”

Dendias' wishes for the New Year and the 2024 report - "The first phase of the 100 million euro Housing Program is progressing, with the construction of 1,000 houses for members of the Armed Forces by 2026"

Newsroom December 31 11:21

Defence Minister Nikos Dendias gave his wishes for 2025, while also giving his account for 2024 in the Minister’s Daily Order for the New Year. Among other things, Dendias referred to the start of the implementation of the “Agenda 2030” while adding that “we will continue with determination the modernization of the Armed Forces”.

He also noted that “the first phase of the 100 million euro Housing Program is already underway, with the construction of 1,000 houses for members of the Armed Forces by 2026”. “Greek society is proud of anyone who wears the uniform of a member of our Armed Forces,” he added.

The details of Dendias’ statement:

The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, says in his Daily Order for the New Year:

“Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Soldiers, Sailors, Captains, National Guardsmen, Reservists and Civilian Personnel of the Armed Forces,

With the advent of the New Year, I would like to express my warmest wishes to all of you and your families.

For health, for prosperity, for progress.

In 2024 we have laid the foundations for the strongest Armed Forces of Modern Greece.

With the “Agenda 2030” as a road map.

The “Agenda 2030” is not only a road map of the necessary reform of the Armed Forces.

It goes beyond that.

It has a clear value framework.

Conservative, reformist and progressive at the same time.

It renews the bond between the Armed Forces and Greek society.

The Greek society is proud of its Armed Forces.

And in the Armed Forces I believe that every Greek projects a part of himself, his ancestors and his descendants.

The Armed Forces symbolize for all of us the timelessness of Hellenism.

The faith in our values, in our traditions, in the sacrifices of our ancestors.

The Armed Forces, with visible and distinct symbolism, express the continuity of yesterday with today and tomorrow of our Motherland.

And the “Agenda 2030” wishes to contribute to ensuring the historical continuity of Hellenism.

By means of an intelligent reform of structures and means.

But also with an appropriate preservation of values and traditions.

Incorporating, at the same time, a human-centered approach and social sensitivity.

Undertaking an effort concerning the entire conditions of life of the Armed Forces personnel, especially their housing and health needs.

To gradually provide our personnel, in addition to modern weapon systems, with the living conditions they deserve.

The first phase of the 100 million euro Housing Program is already underway, with the construction of 1,000 houses for members of the Armed Forces by 2026.

And recently the Prime Minister, Mr. Mitsotakis, announced an increase in the night work allowance and the special conditions and danger allowance.

We know, of course, that these are not sufficient.

But they are a step. A first step.

So 2024 was a productive year.

The implementation of Agenda 2030 began.

The Hellenic Center for Innovation Development was created, which has already produced results, such as the antidrone “Centaur”.

The Law for the Support of Military Families was presented to the Council of Ministers, which includes regulations for Military Hospitals and other support structures and is already awaiting signature at the relevant Ministries.

I also presented to the Council of Ministers the Legislation on the Real Estate of the Armed Forces which will lead to a new housing program for 4,000 more houses.

The Parliament was briefed and the new Force Structure that incorporates Innovation in the Armed Forces was approved by the Council of Ministers.

It provides for the Special Disaster Response Units, the Electronic Warfare Capabilities with the Units being created, Unit 1864 and Unit 1821.

We are moving into the changing era with the mergers and closure of operationally unnecessary camps.

The start of 2025 marks another step.

We will continue with determination to modernize the Armed Forces as a condition of our national survival.

But I want to be honest. Reform will not succeed without your support and your input.

Women and men of the armed forces.

Greek society is proud of anyone who wears the uniform of a member of our Armed Forces.

It trusts you and honors you.

As guarantors of continuity, as guarantors of Freedom, Independence and National Sovereignty of our Motherland.

As guardians and supporters of society in difficult times.
