Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, called Russia’s defeat a defeat, commenting on the termination of gas transit to Europe.
Zelensky said the transit cutoff is “one of the biggest defeats of Moscow, and accused Moscow of “cynical energy blackmail” despite the concern of many Eastern European countries.
Kyiv and Moscow confirmed in separate statements that deliveries of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine were permanently halted this morning after a five-year contract signed between the two parties in late 2019 expired.
“When (Vladimir) Putin took power in Russia more than 25 years ago, the annual volume of gas transported through Ukraine to Europe amounted to more than 130 billion cubic meters. Today, the transit of Russian gas is at zero, which is one of Moscow’s biggest defeats,” Zelensky said in a social media post.
