Instead of wearing an electronic bracelet, Nicolas Sarkozy spent the holidays in Seychelles, with the trip unwittingly revealed by the couple’s daughter Julia, who posted photos of the enchanting island on social media.
The former French president’s teenage daughter, whom he had with his charming wife Carla Bruni, had the bright idea to give a glimpse of the family’s trip to her TikTok followers.
In a series of videos posted on December 28, 2024, and then deleted, Sarkozy’s daughter posted photos of the flight and a hotel. One of the videos shows Nicolas Sarkozy talking on the phone, according to Paris Match magazine.
For its part, the Liberation newspaper comments that Sarkozy’s trip to the Seychelles has become a front-page story in the French press, which deals mainly with celebrities, including Paris Match, Gala, and Public.
Sarkozy’s daughter shared photos of Seychelles with her TikTok followers at a time when the number of her followers on that social media site has soared to 23,000, the Liberation newspaper notes.
Within 24 hours, however, when Sarkozy became… aware that his trip had received several critical comments from French newspapers, the photos his daughter had posted online had magically disappeared.
The photos depicted, among other things, Julia, with coconuts with a straw and a view of the Indian Ocean, and a selfie with her “dad” while talking on the phone.
“Sarkozy, while finally convicted on December 18 in the wiretapping case, how could the former head of state fly thousands of kilometers from Paris?”, French reports have been asking since last night.
Judges sentenced him to three years in prison, including two years suspended, and one year of “home detention under electronic surveillance”, i.e. with an electronic bracelet. However, as the French network “20 Minutes” explains, citing legal sources, after Sarkozy’s conviction, the installation of the electronic bracelet was not immediate. However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office must within 30 days refer the matter to the judge responsible for determining the terms of the former head of state’s sentence.
“The prosecutor has one month from the verdict to assign the case to the judge responsible for hearing the case, who is required to determine the terms of the sentence within four months from the date of the verdict. This process is ongoing, the Paris prosecutor’s office said.
“When we contacted the relevant authorities, the Paris prosecutor’s office told us that indeed “the procedure is in progress,” the French network “20 minutes” commented on its website.
For his part, Sarkozy’s lawyer did not respond to the French network’s request for comment. The fact is, however, that if Sarkozy does not respect the laws of the state, he risks imprisonment.
Julia’s videos that “burned” Sarkozy
The 13-year-old daughter of the former French president and former Italian-born model posted a series of videos of the beautiful Seychelles – which have already been taken down – on TikTok just hours before the 2024 deadline. One of them shows her father talking on his mobile phone.
French media explain that Sarkozy has been able to travel to the Indian Ocean archipelago as he has not yet worn the electronic bracelet after his conviction. However, it is possible that the 69-year-old Sarkozy could avoid wearing the electronic bracelet because of his age, a French publication claims.
