Unique ski resorts in Greece, ideal for skiing and other snow activities

Vali Vaimaki January 4 01:30

Winter enthusiasts in Greece can find some of the country’s best ski resorts at Parnassos, Velouchi in Karpenisi, and the 3-5 Pigadia resort in Vermio. These destinations are perfect not only for skiing but also for various outdoor activities throughout the year.

Parnassos Ski Resort (Kellaria-Fterolakka)

Thousands of vehicles gather every winter weekend in Arachova and Livadi, heading to Parnassos, the best ski resort in Greece. With breathtaking views extending to the Corinthian and Euboean Gulfs, Parnassos attracts ski lovers who closely follow weather forecasts, eager to hit the slopes.

The resort was initially built in 1975, with the first official ski facilities at Fterolakka. It opened in 1977 under the administration of the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT). In 1981, the Kellaria complex was added, and over time, both resorts have undergone modernization. The two connected resorts are serviced by 23 ski slopes of varying difficulty, reaching up to 2,260 meters in altitude, with 17 ski lifts, including advanced detachable lifts. The resort features a three-story chalet offering panoramic views, cafés, shops, and ski equipment rental services.

Additionally, visitors can find a private ski center at Gerontovrachos, on the southern slopes of Mount Parnassos. The region offers activities such as hiking, cycling, and off-road driving throughout the year.

Arachova – The Cosmopolitan Mountain Village

Known for its picturesque clock tower and famous local products like woolen textiles and Formaela cheese, Arachova is a prime destination for both leisure and fine dining.

Velouchi Ski Resort in Karpenisi

Located in the plateau of Velouchi (Tymfristos) at an altitude of 1,850-2,200 meters, the Karpenisi ski resort features 18 slopes, including two dedicated to snowboarding and five lifts. Known for its excellent organization, the resort also offers snowmobile rentals and mountaineering routes leading to Seidani, the highest peak of Velouchi. Nearby attractions include Karpenisi’s historical sites and charming stone-built villages like Koryschades.
