As of yesterday Friday (3/1), store hours stopped being holiday hours. So today (4/1) supermarkets will operate every Saturday, that is, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., while on Sunday the stores will be closed and reopen on 7 January, Monday is Epiphany which is a public holiday.
The only supermarkets that will be open are Shop & Go type and smaller chains such as Bazaar or OK Markets.
Following the Epiphany holiday (January 6), stores will return to their usual operation, serving consumers as usual.
The opening hours of the shops belonging to the local Commercial Associations of the Attica Basin are also normal since yesterday, as the Federation of Commercial Associations of Attica, neighbouring prefectures, and the Aegean Islands stated in a statement.
It is clarified that it remains at the discretion of the Commercial Associations, the differentiation of the opening hours of the commercial shops depending on the particularities and needs of their area of responsibility and of course subject to the rules and restrictions of the legislation.
Thus, this Saturday, commercial shops will be open from 09:00 to 15:00, while shopping centres will be open from 10:00 to 20:00.
Winter sales
The winter sales begin on January 13 and will run through Friday, February 28.
The proposed hours of operation
During the sale period, stores will open on Sundays, January 19 and 26, with suggested hours of operation from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
What to look out for
In particular, as the Thessaloniki Trade Association states in a statement, stores are allowed to open voluntarily on the first two Sundays of the regular winter sales, i.e. on January 19 and 26, 2025, with proposed opening hours on these two days, from 11:00 to 18:00.
About discounts, it is noted – among other things – that “any announcement of a price reduction shall explicitly indicate the previous price (often referred to as the reference price) based on which the discount is applied.
The preceding price is the lowest price the merchant applied to each of its products during the 30 days prior to the application of the first rebate on January 13.”
It is also stressed that particular attention must be paid to compliance with the provisions on discounts and reduced prices, with the penalties for those who violate the law providing for the imposition of a fine equal to 1% of annual turnover and in any case not less than 10,000 euros.
It should be noted that the winter sales will last until Friday, February 28.
