Severe damage has been caused by a fire that broke out in the Mykonos countryside in the area of Fabrica. The fire started in a restaurant in the country which was closed at the time of the incident, and spread to the upstairs apartment where people were staying who managed to evacuate in time with the immediate intervention of firefighters.
The shop owned by an Albanian businessman and the apartment, worth about €1.5 million, were destroyed.
According to initial reports, the fire may have been started by an as yet unknown cause, and there were LPG cylinders inside the shop, which added to the fire’s momentum. The possibilityof arson is under investigation, while authorities are gathering information on the exact cause of the incident.
A video obtained by protothema.gr from the scene shows the efforts of the island’s firefighters to contain the flames.
