Closed roads today (9/1) in Athens: Traffic regulations in the centre for Simitis’ funeral

Additional traffic regulations will be put in place at the Athens Cemetery, where the former Prime Minister will be buried

Traffic regulations around the Metropolis of Athens have come into effect in view of the exhumation service of former Prime Minister Kosta Simitis, which will take place today, Thursday, January 9, at 12.00 noon.

As it is known, due to the funeral of former Prime Minister Costas Simitis, traffic regulations have been put in place from yesterday at 22.00 and until 16.00 today (09/01/2025).

Thus, the stopping and parking of vehicles are prohibited along the entire length and the catenaries (up to the first parallel street) of Mitropoleos, on Aeolou (in the section between Andrianou and Ermou streets,) and on Ermou (in the section between Aeolou and Athinas streets).

Additional traffic regulations will also be in force at the Athens Cemetery, where Costas Simitis will be buried, as well as on streets in the city centre where the procession will pass (Amalias, Stadiou, Vasilissis Sofias, Vass. Constantine, Kalliroi, Ilioupolei, etc.).

In more detail, the Hellenic Police announced:

Prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles and the temporary and gradual suspension of traffic from 06.00 of Thursday 9/01/2025 until the end of the events:

– Rest, along its entire length and on its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
– Trivonianou, in the section between Karea and M. Mousouros streets.
– Β. Giorgios A’, along its entire length.

Phasic and temporary suspension of vehicular traffic from 11.00 until the end of the events:

– Amalias Avenue, along its entire length and on its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
– Stadiou, in the part of the street between the street Americana and the square.

All of its entire length, from the square of St. Petersburg to the square of St. Petersburg and the Syntagma Square.

– Kalliroi, in the section between Am. Franji Street to Vouliagmenis Avenue, in the direction of Ardittou Street.

The EL.AS appeals to drivers, for their better service and to avoid additional traffic problems to avoid crossing their vehicles on the above roads during the mentioned period and to follow the signals and instructions of the traffic police regulators.
