Since yesterday afternoon, Sunday, January 12, heavy snowfall has been affecting many villages in the Municipality of Meteora.
More than ten villages, including Matoneri, Ampelohori, Paliohori, Aidona, and Kleinovos, are without power. Crews from DEDDIE (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator), with the assistance of municipal machinery, are working to restore the damages.
At the same time, over 60 snowplows and construction vehicles from the Region of Thessaly and the Municipality of Meteora are working to keep both the provincial road network and village roads open. Schools in the mountainous areas of the Municipality of Meteora remained closed today, and according to a new announcement by the Municipality, from 11:30 a.m., all other schools in the Municipality of Meteora were also closed.
As the mayor of Meteora, Lefteris Avramopoulos, stated to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, “The entire municipal mechanism has been on standby since yesterday afternoon, and we are acting wherever there is a need. With more than 60 machines, in excellent cooperation with the Region and the regional governor, Dimitris Koureta, we are working to keep the road network open. We kindly ask citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during these weather conditions.”
