The State Duma (parliament) Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin warned today that any attempt or even talk of an attack on President Vladimir Putin is a “path leading directly to nuclear war” and a serious threat to global security.
Citing assertions by US journalist Tucker Carlson that the Biden administration had planned to assassinate Putin, Volodin accused Washington of not clarifying its position and simply remaining silent.
“A day has passed. Everyone is silent. Neither Biden nor Blinken denied what was said,” he wrote on Telegram.
He described the alleged conspiracy as a “crime” and a “grave danger to global security” and called for an international investigation.
“This should serve as a basis for an investigation by all international institutions,” he said.
Volodin also linked the U.S. journalist’s claim to other incidents. “There was an attempted attack on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which was avoided. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fizzo was also targeted,” according to him.
“Former US President Donald Trump was attacked during his election campaign,” he said. “This is all part of the same chain.”
He urged special services to remain on alert as the country is embroiled in a fierce conflict and stressed the seriousness of the threats.
“We need to understand the challenges and the dangers we face,” he said. “That means we have to feel our responsibility.”
Volodin praised Putin’s leadership, calling him “Russia’s asset”. He stressed that “now, more than ever, unity around our president is crucial.”
