“We continue with a methodical and responsible approach, to improve the daily life of the citizen,” said Mr. Staikouras, noting that the delivery of the refurbished trains will reduce the time delays.

In particular, as Mr.Staikouras noted, “We visited, today, the company’s premises where the important project of upgrading 14 trains of Line 1 of the Athens Metro is being implemented. It is a very important intervention, which has already begun. The model car is ready in Spain and the rest of the cars of this train are being built and refurbished here.”

As the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport stressed, “The goal is to have the first train ready and operational by November and to be able, as we have committed, by the end of 2026, to have 14 new trains in Athens, of which 8 were out of service. In this way, we will not only improve the quality of service, but at the same time, we will also improve the timetables, i.e. reduce the time distances. We are continuing to work methodically and responsibly to improve the daily lives of the citizens. On Lines 2 and 3 of the Athens Metro, we are planning and launching specific interventions and we are looking for funding to get new trains. At the same time, work is progressing on Metro Line 4 in Athens and, as we have committed, by the end of 2026, the metro modules will have completed their work.”
