Gross Value Added (GVA) for the country as a whole increased 13.9% in 2022 compared to 2021, according to Regional Accounts from ELSTAT. The regions of the Peloponnese, Crete, South Aegean, and Ionian Islands showed the largest increase. In terms of the participation of the regions in the creation of the GVA, Attica has the largest share with 48.1%, followed by Central Macedonia with 14%.
Based on the regional distribution of GVA and the data of the population statistics (population calculated on a mid-year basis), the regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita is calculated. Its analysis shows an increase (13.3%) for the country as a whole between 2021 and 2022. The regional analysis shows that the regions with the most significant increase are the Peloponnese, Crete, South Aegean, and Ionian Islands, while the region of Thessaly shows the smallest increase.
The smaller area of the region is characterized by a smaller number of islands, with the lowest number of islands in the region.
