Manchester City has announced its updated squad list for the Champions League knockout stage, including injured midfielder Rodri. New additions to the squad are Omar Marmoush, Nico González, and Abdulkodir Khusanov.
However, Vítor Reis, who was signed from Palmeiras in January for €35 million, has been left out of the squad.
New Signings Available for Real Madrid Clash
The three new signings will be available for City’s Round of 16 clash against Real Madrid, which kicks off next week. City, who finished 2nd in their group, will host Real Madrid at the Etihad on Tuesday, with the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu on February 19.
Hopes for Rodri’s Return
Rodri will miss both matches as he continues recovering from a knee injury sustained in September. However, his inclusion in the Champions League squad suggests that he could return before the end of the season.
The Ballon d’Or winner has expressed hope that he will be fit in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in June, set to take place in the United States.
Guardiola’s Warning
Manager Pep Guardiola has warned the 28-year-old midfielder against rushing his comeback, stressing the importance of careful injury management.
UEFA Squad Regulations
According to UEFA rules, clubs are allowed to make up to three changes to their squad before the knockout stage.
Despite making four signings in January, City opted to leave out Reis. The 19-year-old defender has yet to make his debut following his transfer from Brazil, though he was on the bench for City’s 3-1 win over Chelsea and their 5-1 defeat to Arsenal.
