Athens without taxis on February 19 – 24-hour strike announced by SATA

From 6am on Wednesday morning to 6am on Thursday morning

Newsroom February 17 05:28

A 24-hour (24-hour) strike has been decided for Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, by the Board of Directors of the Motorists’ Union Taxi of Attica            (S.A.T.A.).

The demands of the SATA, as stated in a related announcement, are:

– Free entry of the E.D.H. Taxis in dedicated lanes (bus lanes).

– Provide a solution to the problem of project interception by companies with rental cars with drivers.

– To stop the illegal discounts – offers of Uber and Bolt that deliberately break the law (they do not observe the legal fare set by the State) and intensify unfair competition.

– Implement the amendment that prohibits the collection of the fare by any intermediary company (Law 4607/2019 Article 75).

– Correct implementation of the digital platform for the contracts of HICs and the creation of a register for rentals with a guide. Increase of the minimum contract price of E.I.X. by 33%.

– Clear and grey-zone-free separation of services provided by taxis and rental cars with driver. Only taxis provide urban transport. With a taxi, the passenger makes urban transport. With the HIC he buys time for his journey. Transport from point A to a point B is a task that belongs to the taxi.

– Repeal of the controversial provisions of the new tax law and immediate implementation of a tax-free threshold of 12000 euros.

– Removal of the compulsory registration of new taxi cars only zero-emission cars from 2026. We propose to postpone this obligation until 2035.
