In his intervention during the Summit’s proceedings, President Christodoulides stated, among other things, that the EU must act with unity on the issue of Ukraine, as the country’s security is directly linked to that of the EU.

President Christodoulides emphasized that the Republic of Cyprus, as a semi-occupied state, considers it imperative that any peace agreement reached for Ukraine must respect the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. Additionally, President Christodoulides reiterated the need to strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy and defense capabilities.

The teleconference was also attended by, among others, the President of the European Commission and a number of heads of state or government who are members of the EPP.
