A new executive order to cut federal funds used for illegal immigrants has been signed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The order “directs departments and federal agencies to identify all programs funded by the federal government that currently provide financial benefits to aliens in an irregular situation and take corrective action,” according to a document released yesterday, Wednesday, by the White House.
“Federal funds paid to states will not be used to support ‘sanctuary’ policies or to aid illegal immigration,” according to the document.
It also imposes improvements to eligibility verification to prevent benefits from being granted to people in an irregular situation in the U.S.
The executive order aims to guarantee that “taxpayer funds are not used to encourage or support illegal immigration,” the same source added, and is the latest in a series of illegal immigration actions since Donald Trump took office again.
The US president, who was sworn in for a second four-year term in January, has pledged to carry out the largest deportation campaign in US history, promising to send back millions of illegal immigrants.
