The week begins with a new spike in the price of electricity on the wholesale market, which is one step short of 200 Euros a megawatt hour.
In particular, for today, Monday 24 February, the price of electricity on the Energy Exchange stands at 197.86 euros/MWh, recording an increase of 34.69% compared to yesterday’s Sunday price of 146.90 euros/MWh. As for the price fluctuation, the lowest is at 120 euros/MWh and the highest at 386.04 euros/MWh.
It is recalled that throughout last week prices were at high levels, with constant fluctuations, while the most expensive was on Tuesday 18 February, when it reached 192.85 euros/MWh (with the highest at 402 euros/MWh).
The main reason for the new increase in the domestic wholesale price is, on the one hand, the significant increase in demand compared to previous days, and on the other hand, the absolute dominance of natural gas in the energy mix of power generation, combined with the weak participation of renewable energy sources.
And it is noteworthy that in the whole of last week, only one day renewables were in first place with a slight lead over natural gas.
