Naxos Airport will remain temporarily closed from Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to Sunday, March 30, 2025, as part of the expansion of the aircraft parking apron and the upgrade of the runway, according to a notice (NOTAM) issued by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
The runway at Naxos State Airport will be closed to allow for infrastructure and maintenance works on the pavement. During the upgrade works, air ambulance flights using helicopters will not be affected, as they will operate from an approved section of the airport’s parking apron.
The temporary suspension of commercial flight operations is necessary to ensure that the required construction works—including the connection of the new taxiway to the runway, as well as the stabilization and reinforcement of the runway shoulders—are completed safely and within a short timeframe. “The works aim to accommodate larger aircraft types safely, for the benefit of passengers,” the HCAA stated in an announcement.
