Cuts in U.S. aid have forced the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to suspend or significantly reduce many programs in Lebanon, where more than half of children under two are suffering from severe food insecurity in the country’s eastern region, a UNICEF official said today.
“We have been forced to suspend, limit, or drastically cut many of our programs, including nutrition programs,” said Etti Higgins, UNICEF’s representative in Lebanon, speaking to reporters in Geneva via video link from Beirut.
