Work on the construction of the 5-star hotel on the beach of Sarakiniko may have been “frozen” after the discovery of the abortion by protothema.gr, but the destruction was done before it happened.
As seen in the video and photos taken yesterday, Sunday, and brought to the public today by protothema.gr, the large hole that was opened to pour the foundations of the hotel-deck remains within a stone’s throw from the famous beach of Milos.
The question that officials are now being asked to answer is how this unprecedented damage can be repaired so that the area can be restored to a condition to justify being voted the seventh most beautiful place on the planet by Conde Nast Traveller.
As protothema.gr had revealed the Building Conditions and Building Permit Approvals Certificate, the company Unique Developments ATEE (which belongs to a Kefalonian business family headed by the South African-born hotel owner Dionysis Koumoudos), bought the land in order to build a “new two-storey hotel complex with basement and swimming pools” in the “Kaminia” location of Milos.

This is the area of Sarakinikos, which has different names in different parts of the island. The five-star hotel under construction would have a surface area, according to its building permit, of 2,974 sqm, with the project’s models showing plans for four rows of underground villas with separate/private pools and one that would be the center of the hotel complex with a large swimming pool, in the form of “steps”, overlooking the deep blue waters, almost on the wave.

The publication of the destruction of one of the most famous beaches in Greece caused the mobilization of the Ministry of Environment, which decided to “freeze” the works without, however, it has not yet been clarified if and how the beach of Sarakinikos will be restored.
Also, in a statement, the ministry said that it will immediately proceed to suspend the issuance of building permits throughout Santorini, as the Central Council for Urban Planning Issues and Disputes (KESYPOTHIA) has approved the relevant decision.
