Turkey plans a fence on the border with Greece – What the prefect of Adrianople announced

The fence on the western border will initially be 8.5 km long and can then be extended

Newsroom March 4 07:18

His plans to build a fence on Turkey’s western border with Greece were revealed today by the prefect of Adrianople, Yunus Ceser. He announced that Turkey would build an 8.5-kilometer-long fence on the border with Greece, which may later be extended.

“This year, we are continuing the construction of electric towers and taking other measures with the support of the Interior Ministry and the Defense Ministry. This year, we will implement physical border security measures and build a physical fence on our western border for the first time,” he said, according to a Yeni Safak report, accompanied by the relevant photos.

Speaking after a wide-ranging meeting on border security and crime, Ceser said work done last year to strengthen border roads had been completed.

He continued: “Regarding the work carried out on the border line, we had completed the improvement of our 325-kilometer-long border roads and the construction of border roads since last September […] Walls and fences will be built on the border line. As you know, there were only patrol routes. The patrol routes have been completed, and a tender has been made for the construction of natural fences and walls, as on the eastern border. For the first time, we will have taken physical security measures on the western border.”

“In the first stage, a wall will be built on the Greek border. In the next period, security walls on the border will be increased. Initially, it is planned to build 8.5 kilometers this year… It started from the Greek border, and we hope to continue in the future, depending on the situation,” he concluded.
