Nikos Papadopoulos released – Gallery vandalism classified as a misdemeanor

The MP remained at the National Gallery until it was clarified whether his act constituted a felony, in which case he would be arrested in the context of the auto-custody or a misdemeanor

Newsroom March 10 05:41

Nikos Papadopoulos, a member of parliament for NIKI, who earlier vandalized exhibits at the National Gallery was released shortly after 5 p.m.

The MP remained at the Gallery to determine whether his actions constituted a felony or a misdemeanor. If it had been classified as a felony, he would have been arrested under the auto-custody procedure. However, since it was deemed a misdemeanor, he was released, and a case file will be prepared and forwarded to parliament to initiate the process of lifting his immunity, allowing him to be held accountable before the justice system.
