Under House Arrest with Electronic Monitoring
Following her testimony, the 22-year-old driver involved in the fatal accident in Peristeri, which claimed the life of a 47-year-old taxi driver, was placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring.
During her testimony, she claimed that on the night of the accident, she had consumed three glasses of wine and expressed her deep remorse, saying, “I am devastated and truly sorry for the family of the 47-year-old.”
According to MEGA, blood test results showed that she had a high level of alcohol in her system, despite her claim that she had only drunk three glasses of wine. “I drank three glasses of wine. I was at a bar in Keratsini with my friends. I hadn’t eaten, so we decided to go to Petroupoli for food,” she stated.
As previously reported by Proto Thema, her blood alcohol level was measured at 1.29 g/L, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.50 g/L.
Her Testimony on the Crash
The young woman claimed she had no clear memory of how the crash occurred. “The only thing I remember is the bang. I was driving on Thivon Avenue, in the left lane, heading toward Ilion. A car suddenly appeared from the right, coming from a side street. I think it was pulling out of a parking space. I saw its headlights and panicked. I slowed down, and there was another car ahead of me, along with the one on my right. I made a maneuver forward and then immediately moved right. After that, the crash happened.”
“When I left the bar, I felt fine. I hadn’t eaten, though, and I don’t know if that played a role. I want to apologize and express my deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life. I am devastated,” she added.
Criminal Charges
The 22-year-old is now facing felony charges for dangerous driving.
