Three accommodation facilities are shutting down in Elefsina, Volos, and Lesvos.
By order of the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Makis Voridis, three of the 33 active accommodation facilities across the country will be closed.
Specifically, by the end of April, the Elefsina facility, currently hosting 84 residents—mostly Ukrainian nationals—will shut down. The General Secretariat for the Reception of Asylum Seekers, in collaboration with relevant authorities, is ensuring their relocation to other active facilities.
With this closure, the building, which belongs to the Hellenic Shipyards and was leased to the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, will be returned, contributing to the financial restructuring of the company.
Shortly after, the facilities in Volos and Western Lesvos will also close. According to the ministry, the total financial benefit from shutting down these three facilities exceeds €3.5 million.
