The festive celebrations for the anniversary of March 25th culminated with the grand military parade at Syntagma Square, in the presence of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.
Infantry, mechanized units, and aerial forces took part in an impressive parade in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A large crowd had gathered from early morning, most holding Greek flags, to honor the national anniversary and applaud the Armed Forces and Security Corps.
President of the Republic, Kostas Tasoulas, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier earlier in the day, after which the parade officially began. Upon its conclusion, Mr. Tasoulas stated that Greece is a pillar of stability and peace.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of reflecting on the nation’s turbulent journey, noting that Greeks have always succeeded when united. “We live in extremely turbulent times,” he said, “and we must remember that our country is a factor of stability in an unstable era,” concluding with the statement: “What is national is what is true.”
Representatives of political parties, along with Greece’s European Commissioner, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, also made statements in honor of the national holiday after attending the parade.
March 25th: The Moving Procession of War Veterans
A particularly emotional moment in the parade was the procession of the War Disabled, who hold a place of honor each year. These are the individuals who sacrificed their physical well-being on the battlefields, and their passage through Syntagma Square was met with warm applause and deep respect.
