The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, has ordered the competent authorities to immediately stop work on the metal structure in front of the Kallimarmaro Stadium in view of an event by a company that had applied for and received a relevant permit, as it was found that the law “On the Protection of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage in General” was violated.

Mrs Mendoni visited the site following a report in the newspaper Democracy that referred to a “construction”.

The minister also asked for a check on compliance with any conditions imposed by the decision of the Director-General of Restoration of Museums and Technical Works.

At the same time, she asked the General Secretary of Culture and President of the Central Council of Modern Monuments, George Didaskalos, to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Council for an immediate review of the issue, in accordance with the applicable provisions.
