April kicks off with a change in official quiet hours starting tomorrow.

Every April 1 marks the beginning of the summer period for quiet hours, which lasts until September 30.

According to Police Regulation No. 3 of 1996, the summer quiet hours are:

  • Afternoon: 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Night: 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

What is not allowed during quiet hours:

  • Noisy work or other activities that generate disturbance. In exceptional emergencies that cannot be postponed, work that causes noise may be permitted with a special written authorization from the local Police Department, particularly if it’s public utility work.
  • Use of musical instruments or devices such as radios, tape recorders or TVs at high volume, loud talking, noisy dancing, or any kind of disruptive behavior in homes or private premises.
  • Singing, shouting, or playing music in streets, squares, or other public areas within residential zones, as well as inside public transport vehicles.
  • Noisy games in cafés, pool halls, or other public venues, as well as loud conversations or shouting by patrons in those places.
  • Loud conversations or arguments at bus or taxi stations, loading or unloading of goods from trucks that produce noise, and the loud operation of vehicle engines while stationary.
  • Use of sirens or other sound-producing alarm systems without an actual emergency, including test runs of such systems.
