Fifty-eight years after the military coup of April 21, 1967, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized, on the occasion of this somber anniversary, that historical memory today is transformed into a “mature force.” In a social media post, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the resistance fighters, stressing that Greece responds to today’s challenges with faith in Democracy and Parliamentarism.

“We overcome the weaknesses of the post-dictatorship era, staying away from easy demagoguery and dangerous division,” he noted.

In his message, the Prime Minister particularly highlighted the need for political stability and democratic normalcy—especially during a time of international uncertainty, both geopolitically and economically. According to Mr. Mitsotakis, this stability is essential so that “every collective success can also translate into individual prosperity.”

Concluding his statement, the Prime Minister underlined that the lessons of the past continue to guide the country.

“The lessons of the past once again lead us in the steps toward the future,” he remarked.
