Increased traffic measures ahead of May Day – What will apply to trucks

From Wednesday 30 April to Sunday 4 May

Newsroom April 28 03:43

The Police is strengthening road safety measures from Wednesday, 30 April to Sunday, 4 May 2025, in order to ensure the safe movement of citizens and to prevent road accidents, and during the celebration of Promeniny.

According to the plan, there will be full activation of traffic control crews at alternate and nodal points of the road network to prevent and confirm dangerous violations that directly lead to road accidents and loss of human lives, such as:

– driving under the influence of alcohol,
– speeding,
– using a mobile phone while driving,
– not wearing a protective helmet – seat belt,
– improper overtaking and crossing of double dividing lines, etc..
– failure to use special restraint and protection devices, such as seats, seat belts, etc., when transporting children in vehicles,
– driving of vehicles by minors and persons not in possession of a driving licence,
– driving for demonstration purposes,
driving
– circulation of vehicles which have not undergone a regular or exceptional technical inspection within the prescribed period,
– worn tyres; and
– improper movement of vehicles in the emergency lane (E.E.L.).

At the same time, Traffic Services personnel will facilitate the movement of excursionists by:

– intensive traffic policing measures at the entrances/exits of large urban centres, where there is heavy vehicle traffic,
– increased traffic police measures in places where there is a mass movement of passengers (airports, ports, ports, stations, etc.),
– increased presence and targeted policing of road network locations where there is a high incidence of road accidents,
– development of measures and special actions in places where festive events will take place,
– cooperation with relevant bodies and services, as well as informing citizens through the Press Offices, in any case where it becomes necessary to inform the public widely about the existence of any traffic and other problems.

For this purpose, patrol cars, motorcycles, and conventional vehicles will be provided with the appropriate personnel and equipment for the more effective policing of the country’s road network.

Ban on the circulation of trucks over 3.5 tonnes

It should be noted that during the festive period, the ban on the movement of trucks with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes will be in force.

In particular, in the context of reducing traffic problems, improving road traffic and increasing the degree of road safety, during the May Day celebrations, in addition to the traffic facilitation measures to be taken at local level, a traffic ban on all lorries with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes will be in force as follows:
