Celebrations and cheers broke out in the Spanish capital on Monday evening as darkness lifted after hours of blackout

With applause and exclamations of relief, Madrid residents welcomed the restoration of electricity to their homes after an extended outage caused by a major blackout that affected Spain and other countries on Monday afternoon.

Videos posted on social media and shared by international media captured moments of celebration reminiscent of… a goal celebration.

According to The Guardian, the footage was recorded at 21:46, when “light returned” to the Spanish capital.
