The blaze is burning through a forested area near the village of Almyropotamos, right by the main road of Zarakes, heading toward Styra. It is believed to have started near a small chapel in the region.
On the scene are 40 firefighters with 10 fire engines, as well as two ground units from the 4th and 20th EMODE (Special Forest Operations Units). Local government water tankers and volunteers are also assisting. Earlier, one helicopter and two aircraft were deployed to help with the firefighting efforts.
