The fatal accident involving a 65-year-old municipal employee that took place on Friday morning (6/6) on Poseidon Avenue is brought to light today by protothema.gr.

What is shocking in the images that follow is the fact that, without any apparent reason, the taxi driver seems to bump into the garbage truck, absent-mindedly crushing the unfortunate woman. The impact is so violent that the large vehicle swings considerably.

A tragic figure is the fellow 65-year-old woman who, seeing her lose her life so savagely and inexplicably before his eyes, breaks down.

The accident happened yesterday, Friday, just before 7.00 am. There was a passenger in the taxi who was slightly injured and was taken by ambulance to the Red Cross. The driver of the taxi was not injured in the collision.

The main question is what ultimately happened, and the driver did not slow down as, from the images, he does not appear to have been disturbed by another vehicle.

Both the driver of the taxi and the driver of the garbage truck were arrested in the case.

He was charged – on occasion – charges for one felony (the taxi driver) and three misdemeanors, namely the offenses of dangerous driving in the form of dangerous manoeuvring which resulted in danger to a person and resulted in the death of another, personal injury caused by negligence on the part of a person liable, manslaughter by negligence. He was also deprived of his driving licence, as the licence of driver of the garbage truck had expired.

The two accused were given a deadline to plead next Tuesday before the investigating magistrate. It should be noted that the 58-year-old driver of the garbage truck is only charged with a misdemeanor.
