Grief has been caused in Patra and the wider forensic community by the news of the sudden death of the well-known forensic pathologist Giorgios Siozos, who was found dead early Tuesday morning by his relatives.
According to reports, the coroner felt strongly unwell and called 911 to alert, however, when the ambulance arrived, he had already breathed his last. The cause of death is pathological.
Giorgos Siozos served at the Forensic Service of Patras and, together with his colleague Andreas Gotsis, were in charge of conducting autopsies and examinations not only for the Region of Western Greece (Achaia, Ilia), but also for a large part of the Peloponnese, after the recent closure of the Corinthian Forensic Service.
“It is another tragic blow for the Forensic Service, which has been continuously weakened lately, with resignations, suspensions of duties, and a dramatic shortage of staff,” sources from the field point out.
Giorgios Siozos had previously served at the Forensic Services of Ioannina and Arta and was well-liked by his colleagues. He leaves behind a minor child, just 9 years old, spreading untold pain to his family and colleagues.
