Two individuals were arrested in Agia Paraskevi for illegal trade in companion animals, using a store in Gerakas as a front for their activities. The suspects were also issued administrative fines amounting to €119,000.
Following the evaluation of information and evidence regarding individuals involved in breeding, reproduction, and trading of companion animals without a license from the competent authority—and without complying with animal welfare regulations—the above-mentioned suspects were identified, and their criminal activity confirmed. Three additional individuals have also been identified, including a veterinarian, who are currently being sought.
Modus operandi:
The suspects had posted more than 86 advertisements for pet sales on a well-known classifieds website. These ads included operational phone numbers through which prospective buyers could contact them.
