A sharp weather transition is forecast across Greece from Friday through Sunday, with severe weather events, strong winds, and a notable temperature drop expected, especially in mainland regions.

  • Unseasonably hot temperatures persist across much of the country, peaking at 38.4°C in Skala Messinia on Wednesday.
  • High fire danger (Risk Level 3) remains in effect for:
    • Attica
    • Argolida
    • Parts of Boeotia and Corinthia
    • Central and southern Evia
    • Lesvos, Chios, and Psara

  • Through Friday, daytime highs will remain elevated at 34–36°C over mainland Greece.
  • A temperature drop of 3–5°C is forecast from Saturday, returning values to seasonal norms.

  • Afternoon onward: Rapid development of instability with localized thunderstorms, primarily affecting:
    • Macedonia
    • Thrace
    • Thessaly

  • Storm intensity may be significant in parts of Halkidiki, Sporades, Magnesia, Evia, Sterea, and Peloponnese, per ERT meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou.

Saturday, June 21

  • Widespread unsettled weather over:
    • Central Macedonia
    • Sporades
    • Thessaly
    • Evia
  • Showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly midday to afternoon in mainland Greece, especially Central Greece and the Peloponnese.
  • Conditions improve later in the day.
  • Temperatures decline noticeably, maxing out 3–5°C lower than previous days.

Sunday, June 22

  • Mostly clear conditions return, with scattered afternoon clouds and isolated mountain showers inland.
  • Strong northern winds persist:
    • Aegean Sea: 7 to locally 8 Beaufort
    • Mainland & Ionian: 3 to 5 Beaufort
  • Further cooling, particularly in eastern regions.
