The drones targeted the communications center where the radars of Imam Ali air base are installed, as well as anti-aircraft radars at the Taji base

Newsroom June 24 08:00

A drone targeted a military base in southern Iraq in the early hours, two security sources in the country told Agence France-Presse, just hours after a similar attack on another base not far from the capital, Baghdad.

The drone “targeted the communications center where the radars of Imam Ali air base, in Dhi Qar province, are installed, causing material damage,” explained one of the two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter.

Earlier, a drone raid targeted anti-aircraft radars at a military base in Taji, north of Baghdad, without causing any injuries, Iraqi officials announced, unable at this stage to say who was behind the raid.

“A drone of unknown origin bombed the radars and another crashed near a generator,” General Saad Maan, spokesman for the Iraqi security forces, told reporters. Earlier, operations chief for the Baghdad area, Walid al-Tamimi, had referred to the raid on Taji base.
