Domna Michailidou: About 1,500 people with disabilities have acquired their own “Personal Assistant”

The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs assured that the universal implementation of the Personal Assistant programme and the uninterrupted provision of the service between the pilot and the universal programme

The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, confirmed the government’s commitment to the full implementation of the Personal Assistant program and the uninterrupted provision of the service during the transition from the pilot to the full-scale rollout.

“The pilot implementation of the Personal Assistant program has reached the milestone of 1,500 of our fellow citizens with disabilities gaining autonomy in their daily lives. The continuous and guaranteed continuation of the program is our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and equality,” said Minister Michailidou on the occasion of reaching the number of 1,500 individuals with disabilities who have received a Personal Assistant.

According to the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, the implementation of the “Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities” program remains a top priority, as does the goal of fully integrating people with disabilities into Greek society.

In this context, Michailidou highlighted the program’s successful progress:
“The Personal Assistant program marked a milestone right from the start — it was the first Greek initiative to achieve a milestone in the Recovery and Resilience Facility timeline, back in March 2022. Now, by reaching the second milestone of 1,500 people with disabilities — ahead of schedule — significant progress is being made, confirming the effectiveness of the welfare state.”

She also reassured the public that the full-scale implementation and seamless transition from the pilot phase are guaranteed by the government:
“We are working toward a comprehensive policy for the independent living of our fellow citizens with disabilities. The State must prioritize improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, supporting their independent living, and ensuring their inclusion in all areas of social and professional activity, while overcoming barriers and breaking down discrimination and exclusion.”
