EOT’s Plaza is one of the most famous organized beaches of Patras, just a few minutes from the city center and with a wonderful view of the Rio-Antirrio bridge. It is located on the north side of the city, in the area of Agia, and is easily accessible both by car and by public transport. The coast is sandy with clear waters, while the site has organized infrastructure for the public, and the entrance is free for the public.
During the summer months, the Plaza is crowded with people, while it also hosts various cultural and sporting events, making it an important multi-purpose space for Patras. The fourth daily cleaning of Plastic Free Greece, the successful Lidl Hellas programme, which in cooperation with the Public Benefit Foundation Athanasios K. Laskaridis is already in its 6th year of existence, took place there on the same day. It is recalled that the other three clean-ups of 18 May took place in Kalochori (Sindos), Lagonisi (Kalyvia, Attica) and Trikala, i.e., in areas around the company’s logistics centres.
There, fortunately, the problem of coastal pollution was not as overblown as in other cases, a result, no doubt, of its organised nature. The 26.5 kilos of litter collected was certainly a sizeable amount but not a large one, but the problem is with the cigarette butts, as 1175 pieces were collected.
A large number that indicates a bad modern Greek habit. Various small pieces of plastic (359 pieces), bottle caps and rings (30 pieces) and pieces of Styrofoam (25 pieces) were also collected.
At the end of the activity, the beach was cleaner than ever, and we hope bathers and visitors will take care of it accordingly in the future. Just like Lidl Hellas, which never stops dreaming and acting for a sustainable future.
