Kremlin: US and NATO arms shipment sends signal to Kiev to continue war

The reinforcement of the Ukrainian army with Western weapons further removes the possibility of a political settlement, Peskov pointed out

Moscow calls it an escalation rather than a peace perspective, referring to the decision by the United States, NATO and the European Union to continue sending arms to Ukraine. As Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed, “the decision taken in Washington, NATO countries and directly in Brussels is perceived by Kiev not as a signal for peace, but as a signal for the continuation of the war.”

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Peskov stressed that the reinforcement of the Ukrainian army with Western weapons further removes the possibility of a political settlement. “So far, one thing can be said with certainty: it seems that such decisions are interpreted by the Ukrainian side as a green light for the continuation of military operations,”
he said.

The Kremlin‘s statement comes hours after US President Donald Trump‘s statement on the Ukraine issue. On July 14, Trump, in the presence of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, said he was “disappointed” by the attitude of Russia and President Putin personally, and announced that Washington would continue to supply Kiev with arms and military equipment as long as Europe covered the cost of deliveries under the coordination of the Alliance.

At the same time, Trump warned that the U.S. would impose tariffs of about 100 percent on Russian goods and Moscow’s trading partners if Russia and the United States do not reach a deal on Ukraine within the next 50 days.
