Yungblud reveals the gift Ozzy Osbourne gave him before passing away

The heavy metal legend had recognized the 27-year-old artist as one of rock’s rising torchbearers — and three years ago, he gave him a very special gift

Yungblud has revealed the heartfelt gift Ozzy Osbourne gave him before his death. The 27-year-old artist shared the story shortly after attending the private funeral of the heavy metal icon on Thursday, July 31.

During an emotional tribute speech at the burial ceremony in Buckinghamshire, Yungblud paid his final respects to Osbourne. Just hours later, he posted a photo on Instagram of a cross that Ozzy had gifted him back in 2022, during the filming of the video for Yungblud’s song The Funeral.

Yungblud — real name Dominic Harrison — had developed a close bond with the Black Sabbath frontman from their very first meeting in 2022. Many described their connection as that of a father and son. As a token of gratitude, Yungblud had given Ozzy a handmade cross shortly before Black Sabbath’s final show at Villa Park in Birmingham.

“Goodnight, Ozzy. Your light will shine forever. I love you,” he wrote in the caption of his post. Ozzy had long championed Yungblud as one of the new generation of rock artists who would carry the flame forward.

A Special Symbol of Their Bond

Yungblud has previously described the cross from Ozzy as “the most valuable thing I own.” He had even performed a live rendition of Changes at Black Sabbath’s final concert, vowing to dedicate the song to Ozzy’s memory from that moment on.

Ozzy was laid to rest according to his wishes, in the county of Buckinghamshire, beside a lake on his 250-acre estate. The private ceremony was attended by his wife Sharon and their children Jack, Kelly, and Aimee, along with his son from his first marriage, Louis. Rock luminaries such as Marilyn Manson (with wife Lindsay Usich) and Black Sabbath guitarist Zakk Wylde were also present.

The funeral followed a massive procession through downtown Birmingham the day before, where thousands of fans gathered to say goodbye. The Bostin’ Brass band played iconic Black Sabbath songs live, including Iron Man, as mourners joined in emotionally.

Ozzy, who passed away on July 22 at age 76, had once said in a 2011 interview that he wanted his farewell to be “a celebration, not a mourning.” He added, “I don’t care what music they play — even if it’s Justin Bieber or Susan Boyle — as long as everyone’s happy.”

Yungblud’s Final Tribute to Ozzy

Shortly after Osbourne’s death, Yungblud posted photos from their time together at Black Sabbath’s final concert in Birmingham, writing:

“I never thought you’d leave so soon. The last time I saw you, you were full of life, your laughter lit up the whole room. But legends like you seem to know things the rest of us don’t. I’ll never forget you — you’ll be in every note I sing, with me every time I step on stage.
The cross you gave me, which I wear around my neck, is the most precious thing I own.
You once asked me if there was anything you could do for me, and just like I said then, I’ll say it again now — your music was enough for all of us.
You took us with you on your journey — a journey that started it all.
I’m completely heartbroken. You were the greatest of them all.”
