US President Donald Trump‘s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Whitcoff, will meet with the Qatari prime minister in Spain today to discuss a plan to end the war in Gaza and free Israeli hostages, Barak Ravind, a journalist for the US news website Axios, reported on the social media platform X.
The plan is expected to be presented to Israel and Hamas within the next two weeks, according to a source involved in the talks, Axios added.
An unnamed Israeli official also involved in the talks told the same outlet that while Jerusalem has no problem with efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement, “the gap between Israel and Hamas on ending the war is huge, so talk of a comprehensive agreement is likely to be pointless at this stage.”
The White House declined to comment on the news.
The talks come after the Israeli cabinet on Thursday approved a plan for the complete conquest of Gaza City, a move that has raised international concern.
