Although summer is technically ending in a few days, many people continue their holidays in September.
Greek islands were once again a top choice this year, filling up for the entire month of August. But for those who prefer vacations without taking a ferry, there’s an excellent alternative: a beach that holds the title of the largest sandy coastline in all of Europe. And the best part? It’s in Greece, specifically along the beautiful Mainland Riviera.
This is Monolithi Beach in Preveza, stretching approximately 25 kilometers from the village of Mytikas to Kastroyskia. Its name comes from a cluster of large rocks that once stood about ten meters from the shore.
These rocks rose above the sea surface until 1943, when German and Italian soldiers, as a form of “entertainment,” bombarded them with mortars and destroyed them.
It’s also worth noting that construction in the wider area is prohibited, as this zone is protected due to its proximity to Ancient Nikopolis.
