Personal Number: Extension for its issuance with the option of choosing two digits

The extension is granted so that citizens have the maximum possible time to choose the first two digits

Newsroom August 26 02:59

Until November 5, citizens can issue their Personal Number (PN), with the option to choose the first two digits of the prefix of their Tax Identification Number (TIN), either through the myInfo application at pa.gov.gr, or through Citizens’ Service Centers (KEP) and Consular Authorities.

The extension is granted so that citizens have the maximum possible time to choose the first two digits of the Personal Number, as provided for by the relevant legislative provisions. The third digit is alphabetical and generated automatically.

So far, 1,175,800 Personal Numbers have been issued. Of these, 85,880 were issued via KEP and Consular Authorities, a share that corresponds to just 7.5% of the total, showing that the overwhelming majority of citizens choose digital services. Already, 270,140 new ID cards include the PN.

It is worth noting that the inclusion of the Personal Number is mandatory for the issuance of a new ID card and must precede the appointment at Police Departments, in order to save time for citizens.

The Personal Number is a pivotal reform that contributes to the identification and correction of discrepancies recorded in citizens’ data across different public registries, discrepancies that are highlighted by the myInfo application.

In addition, 5,576 issues have been identified in citizens’ municipal registry data, of which 2,714 have already been corrected.

It is noted that during the issuance of the Personal Number, and to facilitate citizens:

  • Citizens can check the Municipality in which they are registered, by using relevant documents easily issued via gov.gr, such as the family status certificate.
  • Parents can be informed about the automatic issuance of TINs for their underage children through AADE’s digital applications.

It is also reminded that through pa.gov.gr, citizens can confirm the details and issue a PN for their dependent underage family members who already have a TIN.
