The 45-year-old driver of the black Porsche involved in the serious traffic accident with two injured people early Friday morning, on the Thessaloniki–Nea Moudania highway near a well-known shopping center in Thermi, is expected to appear today before the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office.
The woman, who left the scene of the collision before authorities arrived and was eventually arrested about six hours later, is charged, among other things, with dangerous driving. The results of blood tests are also awaited to determine the amount of alcohol she had consumed before getting behind the wheel.
It should be recalled that the luxury car she was driving collided with another vehicle, injuring the two occupants, who were transferred to AHEPA Hospital. The injured are a 26-year-old woman, who was the driver, and a 28-year-old male passenger; both are hospitalized out of danger.
After the violent collision, the two cars stopped off the roadway, with the 45-year-old abandoning hers and leaving the scene. Authorities identified her through the license plate and launched a search, locating her a few hours later.
Just hours before the accident, the 45-year-old had posted on social media photos showing her enjoying herself at a well-known Thessaloniki nightclub. In the images, she appeared with famous hairstylist Tryfon Samaras and other recognizable figures from the city.
Through her defense attorneys, she denies abandoning the accident scene and maintains that she was taken to the hospital because she was in shock and injured.
Specifically, according to her lawyers, Michalis Sanidas and Konstantinos Oikonomou, she claims that immediately after the crash she got out of the car and was transported to the hospital by a friend who was following in another vehicle. They also stated that at 6:15 a.m. a call was made to the Traffic Police, lasting three minutes, during which the incident was reported.
She insists she was in a state of shock, does not recall the exact circumstances of the accident, and denies driving above the speed limit.
“At the moment of the crash, a car in front stopped and took her to the hospital. How can we talk about abandonment when at that very time she was in the hospital?” Mr. Sanidas emphasized, adding that people who were with her had contacted the police.
Regarding alcohol consumption, her lawyer noted they are awaiting the results of the blood tests. “She told me she ‘got out.’ A person who rolled over three times with the car, is bloodied in the hospital, a phone call was made to the police—can we put them on public display without saying ‘thank God they survived’? There is a hospital diagnosis mentioning temporary amnesia,” he said.
Mr. Sanidas added that his client is a car dealer, which is why she was driving the particular luxury vehicle, and described her as “a family woman, a churchgoer, and mother of two children.”
According to reports, she admitted during preliminary questioning that she was indeed driving the black Porsche. The blood test results, which will determine precisely how much alcohol she had consumed, are still pending.
