Two police officers have been killed and another wounded in an armed attack on a police station in Smir, western Turkey, security sources said today.

The gunman, reportedly 16 years old, opened fire on the police station in the Baltsova district. He has been arrested, according to private television network NTV.

There have been attacks in Turkey in the past by Kurdish rebels, Islamist organisations and far-left groups, with security forces often targeted.
