Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a brief meeting at Maximos Mansion with Belgacem Haftar, son of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

Belgacem Haftar, whose father controls Eastern Libya, is in Athens for talks with Greece’s political leadership. This morning, he had a scheduled meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Giorgos Gerapetritis, followed by discussions with Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theocharis.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, the historic ties between Greece and Libya were reaffirmed, and ways to strengthen them in the economic and trade sectors were discussed.

These contacts come about two months after the Greek Foreign Minister’s trip to Benghazi, where he met with Khalifa Haftar and his sons, as well as his subsequent visit to Tripoli in Western Libya.
