Russian man sentenced to 18.5 years in prison for collaborating with a “pro-Ukrainian” organisation

He was secretly communicating with a "pro-Ukrainian" organisation via Telegram and transported explosives from a hideout on the organisation's instructions

Newsroom September 16 03:38

A Russian man has been sentenced to 18 years and 6 months in prison for “betrayal” after being found guilty of transporting explosives at the behest of a “pro-Ukrainian” organization.

More specifically, the Russian security services (FSB) told the state news agency Tass at noon on Tuesday (16/9) that the traitor, a resident of Russia’s Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine, had allegedly established a “covert cooperative relationship with a representative of one of the pro-Ukrainian terrorist organizations banned in Russia” via the Telegram app.

He had taken explosives from a hideout at the behest of that organization, awaiting “new instructions” on how to use them. The military court in Russia sentenced him to 18.5 years in prison for “treason.”

Since the beginning of Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022, trials for “corruption“, “treason“, “terrorism” or “espionage” have increased and generally resulted in heavy sentences for those convicted, a means of limiting dissent.
