Caroline’s father: ‘It’s very cruel to tell a 6-year-old that his father did something like that to his mother’

Four years after the savage crime in Glyka Nera, where Bambis Anagnostopoulos murdered his wife Karoline, leaving behind their child, Lydia, the case comes to the fore again, this time with new information about the couple’s daughter.

Caroline’s father, David Crouch, spoke to Alpha about how her 6-year-old daughter, who now lives in the Philippines with her grandmother (she has been granted custody by court order), is growing up and revealed that the little girl knows that her mother is no longer alive but does not know the details of her tragic death.

More specifically, Mr Crouch said: “We have told Lydia, Caroline’s daughter, that her mother died, but we have not told her how she died. This is something for the future. It’s too hard to tell a six-year-old child that her father did this to her mother.”

In addition, he noted that he is trying to preserve his daughter’s memory: “We still celebrate Caroline’s birthday with a small gathering with Lydia’s friends and a cake with ‘Happy Birthday Mom‘ written on it. We also have a memorial service on the anniversary of her death, where our beloved Caroline is buried. I must not let Caroline’s memory fade. I loved her very much.”

Lydia’s life in the Philippines

About 5-year-old Lydia’s life in the Philippines, her grandfather pointed out that: “it is idyllic. Lydia is just a happy five-year-old whose only concerns, in order of priority, are taking care of her teddy bear, her playmates, school, and what she’s having for dinner tonight.”

In the Philippines, it is not uncommon for a child to grow up with his or her grandparents, as many parents go abroad to find better-paying jobs.”

When Caroline’s father was asked about the possibility of his granddaughter coming to Greece, he pointed out that: “There are no immediate plans for Lydia to come to Greece. Maybe when she is older and can pay her own ticket, she will come to visit the country where she was born. It will be her decision. While stressing that the child has no contact with Bambi Anagnostopoulos’ parents.

“Babis has not been allowed to see a photo of his daughter.”

Babis Anagnostopoulos’ lawyer, Alexandros Papaioannidis, also spoke to Alpha, who said that “Bambi remains in Malandrinos prison and will remain there for a long time. From the beginning, the sentence imposed is life imprisonment, which is not subject to change.”

Asked if he has seen a photo of his daughter, Papaioannidis replied, “The only thing I can say for sure is that because of limited internet use inside the prison, she can’t see anything. I’m sure he wants to be well and have any communication with his daughter, both he and his family.

Babi’s family is upset that they can’t communicate with the girl, not that she went to the Philippines. How can the parents’ right to contact be exercised when the child left without any information about the foreign country, while stressing that “what they did was a violation of a court order.”
